This is my first visit to the USA - the land of McDonald, Coca Coal and Disney. I know that all of the above three have introduced the American culture in other countries but I hadn't a chance to experience since I live in a tiny village near Djakarta. My airplane stopped in Amsterdam for refueling. I had seven hours to kill. With poor English knowledge and culture shock, I could not communicate with co-passengers. I bought a newspaper and read for 2 hours. I saw the golden arches signboard that read "McDonalds". I decided to pay a visit. There was a queue system. I waited for nearly 20 minutes thinking of what to get. I had 5 euros with me. That could buy me a Happy Meal (burger, fries and a drink). So, I ordered. When I got my order, a boy behind me tried to grab! I told him it was mine and walked towards the tables. I saw people staring at my huge package on my food tray (written "Happy Meal" in red bold letters). I thought may be I was eating too much by American standards. Heck, we Asians love food too much to be embarrassed.

I sat alone. I saw another oriental guy with "Happy Meal" walking towards me. i guessed he must be feeling lost too. I beckoned him and offered him a seat. We discoverd we both speak Mandarin. Happily we ate the burger. While fishing for the fries, my companion found a toy in his package! I looked into mine immediately. I found one too. Quickly we realized that the "Happy Meal" was in fact, Kids' meal! We were so embrassed that we tossed the package into trash and moved to another sitting area!

After reaching the USA, my host told me McDonald's is a favourite of kids, not adults. I am learning....
